Group Gives 10,000 Bibles to London’s Children

The Greater London Auxiliary of the Trinitarian Bible Society proudly announced that over 10,000 Bibles have been distributed to London schools within three years.

The initiative started when the auxiliary was formed in December 2019, reports Keep the Faith. In a statement, the organization said, “London is one of the world’s highest ranking cities in many respects yet there are millions of people here who know very little of the Lord Jesus Christ. This has the most tragic effect upon all people, including children, so it is particularly wonderful that so many children are receiving free Bibles.”

The auxiliary focuses on giving Bibles to school children saying kids in London face huge social problems. As part of the group’s campaign, two volunteers connect with schools to offer presentations and short talks with the students about the Bible.

“As a teacher, I have often been impressed by the value and excitement shown by students when they receive copies of the word of God,” said Pastor Martin Humphrey, chairman of the auxiliary. “Months, and sometimes even years later, someone will suddenly take one out of their bag. It is a great encouragement that so many have been given out around London.”

The group noticed an increase in requests for commemorative Bibles such as the Platinum Jubilee Bible, followed by the Bible marking the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. “The Society hopes to produce a commemorative edition for the Coronation of Charles III, and this is also expected to be popular with schools,” it said in a statement.

The Trinitarian Bible Society held its annual meeting on November 15 at Brixton Tabernacle, the event where they announced the good news about the success of their Bible-giving campaign. Brixton is a district in south London, which was known to be a dangerous community, but now boasts of churches and is typically peaceful.

In addition, the Society also was able to secure a place in Trafalgar Square in July to give away Bibles translated into different languages along with a variety of English Authorized Version Scriptures. The effort targeted giving Bibles to foreign visitors and Londoners whose first language is not English. There are now plans to send Bibles to other areas of London.
